Shangarh — The Himachal You Were Looking For

Day 1 — Leave the Highway Behind

Aut → Sainj → Neuli → Shangarh

Reach Aut and leave the usual Manali/Kasol route behind. From here, the road slowly climbs into Sainj Valley, following the river and passing small villages, apple orchards and terraced hills.

Stop at Sainj for essentials before continuing towards Shangarh.

By the time you reach the village, the landscape changes completely — fewer vehicles, fewer people and a much slower pace.

Check into a local homestay and don't plan anything ambitious for the evening.

Walk through the village. Sit with a cup of chai. Watch the mountains change colour as the sun goes down.

Day 2 — The Meadow & The Forest

Wake up early.

This is the day you came here for.

Walk towards Shangarh Meadow, a huge open grassland surrounded by deodar forests with Shangchul Mahadev Temple standing at its edge.

Don't rush through it.

Sit down. Walk around the meadow. Take photographs. Or simply do nothing for a while.

The meadow is considered sacred by the local community, so visitors should respect local customs and avoid littering, camping or driving onto it.

After lunch, head out for a forest walk.

Depending on your fitness and local conditions, explore the trails around the village or take a longer walk towards the surrounding grasslands/waterfall areas.

Come back before sunset.

Evening: Local dinner + bonfire if your homestay permits it.

Night: Shangarh

Day 3 — One Last Mountain Morning

Don't wake up thinking about checkout.

Wake up early enough to experience Shangarh before the village gets moving.

Have breakfast with a view, take one final walk through the village and spend some time around the meadow.

Then start descending towards Sainj → Larji → Aut.

If you have time, stop around the Sainj River before joining the highway again.

And just like that, you're back in the world you were trying to escape.
